Mount Alvernia Hospital was established as part of the healthcare ministry of the Congregation of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood (FMDM). The uniqueness, ambience and strength of Mount Alvernia are primarily due to the mission, values and philosophy of the FMDM upon which this healthcare ministry is based. The particular charism of the Congregation finds its expression in the Hospital’s commitment to:

• Provide treatment to those who are curable, and care for those who are terminally ill
• Maintain an atmosphere of warmth, love and compassion which is favourable to the morale and personal well-being of patients
• Demonstrate care and concern for the staff, doctors and patients’ relatives
• Exercise stewardship through effective service planning and sound financial management
• Ensure that a portion of surplus is used for continual upgrading of the hospital’s facilities and services as well as supporting other health-related outreach programmes for the well-being of the sick and needy
