ENDOSCOPIC PROCEDURES
We have a team of dedicated endoscopic specialists
to provide a range of comprehensive endoscopic procedures,
both for screening and diagnostic purposes.
The use of flexible lighted tube is used in recent
times to investigate hollow organs in the body in order
to help specialists make a diagnosis and to help the
patient improve their symptoms. Recently such endoscopy
is done with the help of the video devices which enable
the specialists to view the organs magnified on the
television rather than peeping through the scope itself.
The whole procedure can thus be recorded for future
reference and comparison with previous recordings made.
Patients go through a pleasant experience with no pain
due to effective sedation and analgesia given during
the procedure.
Routine Endoscopic Investigations
OGD
Oesophago-gastroduodenoscopy
is an investigation to view the passages of the oesophagus,
stomach and duodenum. This is the commonest investigation
for dyspepsia and screening procedure for upper gastrointestinal
cancers. Besides looking at the mucosa of the structures,
biopsies can be taken to check for H. pylori infection.
This bacteria, H. pylori is responsible for many cases
of dyspepsia, ulcers as well as pre cancerous conditions.
Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy
is an investigation
to view the whole of the colon in order to look for
polyps, cancers, diverticular disease and colitis. The
investigation requires preparation to remove all the
fecal material by taking some medicine and fasting.
Cystoscopy
Cystoscopy
is an investigation
to view the urethra and the bladder to look for cystitis,
stones and cancer of the bladder. This procedure is
done by the urologist.
Bronchoscopy
Bronchoscopy
is an investigation
to view the respiratory passage including the larynx,
trachea, bronchus and bronchioles for infection and
tumour. This procedure is done by a respiratory specialist.
