Why is health screening important?
Health screening is a proactive step to staying healthy. Regular
health screening gives you a snapshot of your health status and lets you know
how your body is doing from time to time. Regular health screening is also your
surest bet to detecting serious conditions for early treatment, before complications
set in.
Early detection allows for early treatment, which may reduce
the possibility of further complications and significantly reduce the overall
cost of treatment.
What does health screening involve?
Health screening generally involves blood, urine and stool
tests, and other procedures like X-rays, ultrasound scans and electrocardiograms.
A doctor will also record your medical history and conduct a physical examination.
Once all the tests are completed, the results will be consolidated
into a personal health screening report which you can take home. A follow-up
appointment will be scheduled with the doctor to review the findings and provide
you with the necessary medical advice.
What special packages and promotional events do you have?
We have various health-screening packages to suit your needs
as listed in our brochure. There are also various customised packages throughout
the year, which are publicised through our website and in-house magazine My
Alvernia.
If you would like to receive regular updates on our health
screening packages, you can sign up as a Wellness Club member. You may call
us or approach our counter staff for more information.
What are the Health Screening Centre’s opening hours?
• Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm for Health Screening
services
• Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm for enquiries and bookings
• Saturday 8am to 1pm for all services.
How long does the executive health screening checkup take?
Typically, you would expect to be at the Centre for approximately
3 hours. This varies according to the range of tests included in your chosen
package. For example, our top-end package, which includes additional ultrasounds
and stress treadmill, may take up to 4 hours.
What is the sequence of the screening tests?
Typically you would go through the following screening stations:
• Height/ weight/ BMI/ Eye-check/ waist circumference measurement
• Blood-taking
• Urine and stool collection
• ECG
• Diagnostic imaging tests e.g. x-ray, ultrasound
• History-taking and medical checkup by doctor
• Review with doctor after completion of entire checkup at a later date
Note: higher end packages may also need you to go through the following:
• Stress treadmill
• Lung function test
• Special eye tests
The sequence doesn’t need to follow as above as we want to optimise your
turnaround time. We are also mindful that some tests require fasting and we
aim to manage the flow to complete these tests first so that you can have your
breakfast as soon as possible.
When will I receive my health screening results?
Your completed medical report would be presented to you when
you return for your personal review with our doctor. This review will typically
take place one week after your checkup, according to available slots and your
preference.
What happens when there is an abnormal finding in the test
results?
During your personal review with our doctor, you will be advised
if there is any cause for concern. The doctor may then recommend a repeat test
or additional tests or write you a referral letter to see a specialist.
Please note that additional or repeat tests and specialist
charges are outside of our package pricing and hence additional charges will
be incurred.
What if I can’t come to see the doctor in person for
the review?
We protect all our patients’ confidentiality and privacy.
Hence, we strongly encourage you to come for your personal review in person
allowing our doctor to explain to you your health status and any recommendations
or follow-up management plan.
Should it not be possible, you could assign a proxy to collect
the report on your behalf, though there would not be any session with the doctor
in this case. To arrange this, a duly authorized proxy form is required and
the named proxy must then bring along his/her NRIC for verification at the time
of collection.
Sending medical reports by post is never encouraged but, in
special circumstances, you may request for your report to be sent to you by
courier service. However, the incurred courier fee will be borne by you.
